Audemars Piguet watch straps: custom alligator for 264 models

You own an Audemars Piguet on your wrist—maybe a Jules Audemars, maybe a Code 11.59. The original strap has had its time, or you simply want to see it with different leather. In the atelier we've mapped 264 AP models, one by one, to understand where the lug sits and how the leather needs to bend to follow the case without forcing it.

Why Royal Oak and Jules Audemars need different straps

Two different mechanical worlds coexist in the Audemars Piguet archive, and the strap needs to know the difference. Jules Audemars, Millenary and Classique come with traditional lugs: the case detaches from the bracelet, the attachment is a through pin, and the leather works independently. This is why we keep 112, 56 and 2 models respectively in our archive for these references.

Royal Oak is another story. Genta's integrated bracelet is welded to the case from birth, never designed to be replaced: that's why we only hold 12 references in our archive, those cases where a leather strap makes structural sense, not just aesthetic. On these cases the curve of the lug must be respected to the millimeter, or the strap sits crooked on the wrist.

The three measurements that actually matter are these: 20mm covers 161 models, 18mm another 88, and 19mm a niche of 13 references—often the smaller Millenary or certain vintage Jules Audemars. In this collection we work with one leather only: alligator. Regular scales, patina that darkens with years, a surface that follows the hand of whoever wears it without cracking like cheaper leather would.

Which Audemars Piguet straps do you have in your archive?

We have 264 Audemars Piguet models in our archive, mapped one by one. The most covered family is Jules Audemars with 112 references, followed by Code 11.59 with 77 and Millenary with 56. Then Royal Oak with 12, Haute Joaillerie with 3, Classique with 2, (re)Master and Royal Oak Offshore with one reference each. Every lug size is verified on the actual model, not inferred from the catalog.

Will a Milano Straps strap fit my Royal Oak?

It depends on the reference. Royal Oak has the integrated bracelet designed by Gerald Genta, meant to stay welded to the case: that's why we only cover 12 references in our archive, the ones where the lug allows a leather strap without forcing. If you have a Royal Oak, send us the exact reference and we'll verify together whether it falls among these 12 models.

What lug size does my Audemars Piguet have?

The sizes we cover are three: 20mm, the most common with 161 compatible models; 18mm, present on 88 references; and 19mm, a niche size on 13 models, often smaller Millenary or vintage Jules Audemars. If you don't know the exact lug size of your watch, send us the reference: we'll verify it in our archive.

What leather do you use for Audemars Piguet?

In this collection we work with one leather only: alligator. It's a deliberate choice, not a limitation. The regular scales and compact structure of this leather follow the proportions of Audemars Piguet cases, especially Jules Audemars and Millenary, better than generic leather. Every alligator strap is cut and sewn in the atelier in Milan.

How does alligator strap age?

Alligator darkens over time, especially where your wrist warms it most. The scales don't crack like smooth-grain leather because the structure is naturally segmented: each scale works independently and absorbs movement without breaking. After a few months of wear the strap takes the shape of your wrist and the patina becomes deeper, no longer matte.

Can I see the strap before choosing it?

Yes, the atelier is at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan, but by appointment only. You can see the alligator leather up close, check the stitching, and verify with us the exact lug of your Audemars Piguet before choosing the strap. Write us to book a time.
