The Saffiano texture is not an aesthetic choice — it is a technical decision. The cross-hatch weave patented in 1913 by Mario Prada transforms Italian calfskin into a surface that resists scratches, holds its shape and ages without giving way. On this strap, the cognac is not the cognac you see everywhere: it is warmer than black, formal enough for a Datejust, sturdy enough for a Black Bay.
The ecru stitching is not a compromise — it is a choice. Against the cognac, it creates a contrast reminiscent of Italian tailoring: that detail noticed only up close, yet one that clearly sets quality apart from approximation. It’s more compact than smooth calfskin, and this is its strength: it holds its shape and resists scratches. At 2.1 mm it stays slim on the wrist.
