The Saffiano texture is not an aesthetic choice—it's a technical decision. The cross-hatch pattern, patented in 1913 by Mario Prada, transforms Italian calf leather into a surface that resists scratches, maintains its shape, and ages without yielding. On this strap, the cognac is not the cognac you see everywhere: it's warmer than black, formal enough for a Datejust, sturdy enough for a Black Bay.
The ecru stitching is not a compromise—it's a choice. Against the cognac, it creates a contrast reminiscent of Italian tailoring: that detail you only notice up close, but which clearly distinguishes quality from approximation. With a 36mm Rolex Datejust is it advisable to choose the 18mm or 19mm size?

Before ordering, it is always useful to measure the space between the lugs with a caliper or verify the watch’s technical sheet. If your Datejust lug width is 18mm, that is the correct size: a strap too tight or too wide at the lugs compromises both aesthetics and fastening security.
How does this dark brown Saffiano differ from the cognac brown of the same model?
