Suede is more sensitive to water and abrasion than full calf, but with conscious use it lasts for years. Keep it away from intense rain and prolonged humidity. A soft brush and a specific suede protective spray are enough to maintain it in good condition for years.
It serves both functions. The hand-stitched seam running along the edges reinforces the layers of the strap and contributes to lateral stability. The tribal pattern is the stylistic choice of that stitch — but the stitching is not applied to the surface: it is an integral part of the strap’s construction.
