Matte black doesn't seek attention. It commands it.
Unlike glossy black – which reflects and declares – matte black absorbs light and exudes character. On the alligator strap, this matte finish reveals the texture of the scales with a clarity that gloss doesn't allow: each scale is visible, distinct, present.
The alligator leather is selected for uniformity of the belly, processed in Italy with traditional tanning, and hand-finished. The profile progressively tapers from the lug attachment to the tail – a geometry that is not only aesthetic but also serves to keep the strap flat under the watch and snug on the wrist. No annoying stiffness. Just the right firmness.
A strap that works just as well on a Patek Philippe in a conference room as it does on a Datejust on a Sunday morning. Matte black, in this sense, is democratic: it doesn't belong to a single occasion.

But doesn't opaque black get dirty right away? I'd prefer something that hides stains.
It is not a matter of getting dirty more or less — it is a different characteristic. Opaque black absorbs light rather than reflecting it, so it does not show fingerprints or dust the way polished black would, which is mirror-like. It is more about aesthetics than practicality: the matte reveals the scale pattern, the polish does not. If you want a strap that does not «speak», opaque black is exactly it. Furthermore, it is alligator leather: over time it develops a patina that is part of the piece’s story.
I have a Submariner with a 20mm lug width. Will this strap fit properly or will it look loose?
At 20mm we have the 20mm × 16mm model: it is designed for that lug width, so it fits as it should. The strap tapers progressively from the attachment toward the tail — at the attachment it is thicker (3.5mm) and gradually reduces to 2.5mm. This geometry is precisely engineered to avoid rigidity under the watch: it stays flat and adheres to the wrist without discomfort. It is not a matter of random sizing: it is construction.
Is every strap identical or do they really differ from one another? I'm thinking of buying another one in a few years.
They are not identical. Alligator leather is selected for uniformity, yes, but slight chromatic variations between one specimen and another are intrinsic to the nature of the hide — it is written that way because it is true. If you buy again in a few years, you will have two pieces recognisable as «opaque black alligator Milano Straps», but they will not be twins. For certain collectors that is exactly the point: it means you are choosing real leather, not an industrial imprint.
Is it dyed with natural or chemical colours? I’d like to know how it is actually made.
The leather is worked in Italy with traditional tanning, and the black is mat — meaning opaque, not polished. I do not have specifics on the chemistry of the dyeing to give you: what I know is that it is artisanal, Italy, and the opaque finish is done by hand. If you want to delve deeper into the tanning, it is best to contact us directly — I do not want to tell you about procedures I do not know in detail.
I like this but I have a small wrist. What is the total length?
The strap is 115mm on the long side and 75mm on the short side. That is how it is designed, standard. If your wrist is very small, it is not a matter of cutting — it is handcrafted, you cannot shorten it yourself without damaging it. You should write to us directly: we could evaluate whether there is room for a custom variation, but it is not a modification I guarantee on every piece.
