Selected leathers
The Mohawk is a leather I know well. It comes from the Tuscan tanning tradition — a process that adds wax and oil to vegetable tanning, making the surface more robust, slightly uneven, with that lived-in character that smooth leather cannot provide. Cognac is its natural shade: warm, rich, with nuances that change depending on how the light hits it.
The stitching is tone-on-tone. It doesn't seek visibility — it follows the color of the leather without interrupting it. This choice requires more care during production, as the thread must exactly match the leather's shade. The result is a strap that speaks as one coherent piece.
The thickness is 2.5 mm. The edge is hand-finished. Tuscan Vintage leather develops a patina over time — contact areas darken, edges soften, and each strap progressively becomes more personal. This is not a material defect: it's what it's supposed to do.
I envision it well on vintage chronographs — a Heuer Autavia, an Omega Speedmaster, a Zenith El Primero. But it also works on yellow gold or bronze dress watches, where cognac creates a natural, effortless color pairing. On polished steel, it is more decisive, more contemporary.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does this Mohawk leather change over time? I like the idea that it ages, but I want to understand what actually happens.
Tuscan Vintage leather develops patina progressively. The areas where the strap flexes and rubs — the contact points with the case — darken. The edges soften. It’s not something that happens in two months: it’s a gradual process, where each strap becomes more personal over time. It’s not a flaw, it’s exactly what a vegetable-tanned leather with wax and oil treatment should do.
Why tone-on-tone stitching? It’s not just aesthetic, right?
No, it’s a choice about how the strap communicates. Tone-on-tone thread doesn’t break the visual continuity of the leather — it doesn’t create a line that distracts. But it requires more attention in production, because the thread must match exactly the cognac tint. The result is a strap that speaks as one piece, with no competing elements.
On which watch does it look good? I have a Speedmaster, but I’m not sure if cognac really works.
On a Speedmaster it works perfectly — it’s one of those cases where cognac Mohawk shows its best. More broadly: you’ll see it look great on vintage chronographs like Heuer Autavia, Omega Speedmaster, Zenith El Primero. But it also creates a natural color pairing on yellow gold or bronze dress watches, without needing calculations. On polished steel it’s more decisive, more contemporary. It depends on how much you want the strap to converse with the case.
What’s the difference between this leather and a smooth leather? Why does Mohawk come from Tuscany?
Mohawk was born from Tuscan tanning tradition — a process that adds wax and oil to vegetable tanning. This makes the surface more robust and slightly irregular. Smooth leather is predictable; Mohawk has that lived-in character from the start, an irregularity that says where it comes from. Cognac is its natural tint: warm, rich, with nuances that shift depending on how light hits it.
Is 2.5 mm thickness standard? And how much does hand-finished edge impact the strap?
Thickness is 2.5 mm — you need to consider it when ordering. Hand-finished edge isn’t decoration: it’s part of how the strap ages well. A carefully finished edge continues to look good as the leather develops patina. It’s one of those details that decides whether a strap ages with dignity or starts to fray.
