Panerai watch straps made to measure: Luminor, Radiomir, Submersible

Your Panerai arrived with a strap that has seen its time. Whether it's a Luminor with a 24mm lug width or a more compact Radiomir at 22, the original strap often doesn't keep pace with the watch over the years: it dries out, separates at the seams, loses its shape around the wrist. Here you'll find a replacement designed for that precise case, not a generic approximation from a standard catalog.

Why a Panerai strap isn't like any other

The Radiomir has thin, soldered lugs flush with the case side: they follow a tight curve and require a strap cut to match that geometry without leaving visible gaps on either side. The Luminor has full, more squared lugs that accept a slightly wider band and a more decisive attachment. These are two different geometries, and a strap designed for one rarely fits the other well.

Sizes follow the same logic as watch families. The 24mm covers 868 models in our archive, typical of Luminor and Luminor 1950. The 26mm reaches 425 models, for larger cases like certain Submersible references. The 22mm, 236 models, appears on smaller Radiomir sizes. The 20mm remains rare, 46 models, on the smallest Radiomir and Luminor Due references.

With leather, the difference shows over time. Calf develops patina and softens on the wrist, alligator maintains its structure but loses elasticity after years of daily wear, nylon stays stable even with sweat and humidity, which is why it often appears on dive models.

Yes, it changes the strap shape at the attachment. The Radiomir has thin, soldered wire lugs that require a strap cut to follow that tight curve without visible gaps on the sides. The Luminor has solid, more squared lugs that accept a slightly more robust band at the attachment. A strap designed for solid lugs on a wire lug case leaves play at the sides, and vice versa it fits too tight. This is why we cut each strap according to the specific model, not to a generic size.

What leathers do you work with for Panerai?

For this collection we work with nylon in 82 variants, calf in 66, alligator in 43, saffiano in 26, suede in 19, cordovan in 11, lizard in 8, stingray in 4, and ostrich in 2. Nylon stays stable in humidity and sweat, suited for daily or active wear. Calf and cordovan develop patina over time. Alligator and lizard remain more formal. The choice also depends on the Panerai family and how you plan to wear it—we discuss this together in the atelier while looking at your watch.

Can I replace my Panerai strap on my own, without visiting the atelier?

Many Panerai models, particularly vintage pieces, have screw-down or fixed bar lugs that require a specific screwdriver, not the quick-release spring bars found on other watches. If you've never removed a strap with this type of attachment, it's worth doing it carefully or having someone show you the process once in the atelier. The new strap arrives already cut to the correct size; it's just a matter of securing it with the same lug system as the original.

What does a made-to-measure Panerai strap cost?

The price varies based on leather, craftsmanship, and finishing details, so we don't list a single figure on the page. The most direct approach is to write to the atelier with your Panerai model and the leather you're interested in: we'll send back a precise quote with no surprises. This discretion about pricing is intentional—each strap is made for the individual watch, not from a standard list.

Do I need to book an appointment to see the straps in person?

Yes, the atelier at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan is by appointment only. You can write ahead to schedule a time and bring your watch: seeing the strap on your wrist, with the real case in front of you, changes your choice compared to looking at photos alone. While you're there we can also show you exactly how to remove the lug attachment on your specific model.
