Technical glossary
Workshop tools, consumer version
No 100-piece Chinese kits. This selection only includes tools we see used every day in the Casati Milano workshop: aluminum tweezers for modern spring bars, dedicated screwdrivers for Rolex bracelets (the 116610 side screws cannot be touched with eyeglass tools), air blower to remove dust without scratching the case. Stainless steel, CNC aluminum, Swiss Standard materials where it matters.
Cleaning and care: the correct workflow
Watch cleaning follows a sequence you cannot skip: air blower to remove abrasive particles → specific solution (denatured alcohol + distilled water, never industrial solvents) → two separate microfiber cloths (one for the case, one for the crystal). Japanese suede microfiber is what we use for sapphire crystals because it lifts particles instead of dragging them. A generic textile cloth scratches even a 9-Mohs sapphire.
Hardware: buckles and accessories that last
Swiss Standard steel buckles with PVD plating are not an aesthetic upgrade — they're a functional one. PVD is vacuum-applied and maintains its finish for years of daily use, whereas traditional electroplating wears off in months. Five sizes 14/16/18/20/22mm cover every modern strap with standard taper (20/16, 22/18, 24/20mm). Compatible with any aftermarket or original strap using the standard spring bar system.

Frequent questions
Which tool should I start with if I have nothing?
If you need to change a strap for the first time: aluminum tweezers (€24) for modern spring bars. Covers 90% of cases (leather, rubber, nylon, FKM on watches with standard 18-24mm lugs). For a Rolex with Oyster/Jubilee bracelet that needs resizing: dedicated screwdriver kit. For basic cleaning: blower + Japanese microfiber cloth. Three pieces that cover the entire workflow.
Can I use one single tool for all watches?
No, it depends on the closure type. Straps with standard spring bars: tweezers or Classic tool. Rolex metal bracelets with side screws: only the dedicated screwdriver kit (screws have precise tolerances, an eyeglass driver will strip them). Panerai with Quick Release: specific punch or tool. Apple Watch has its own slide system. A complete kit is needed when the collection is heterogeneous.
Do aftermarket buckles hurt the value of an original watch?
On a future trade, the original buckle counts. If you replace for daily use, keep the original buckle in the box and use the Swiss Standard PVD aftermarket. The wrist sees the buckle color (rose gold, black, etc.) and the swap is a reversible action. To reduce risk: always choose PVD on steel, not cheap galvanic plating.
