Ostrich: the unforgettable leather

Ostrich has an undeniable grain. Each nodule is a follicle, each hole tells where a feather grew. The texture is three-dimensional, deep, and uneven in just the right way. I haven't found another leather that adapts to the wrist without breaking in from day one.

The African ostrich (Struthio camelus) is an exotic leather with vegetable tanning. The follicle quill bumps — denser and more uniform at the centre of the back — create a three-dimensional texture that no smooth leather can replicate. It flexes immediately, with no break-in period. With wear, it develops a patina that defines the quill bumps over time.

The deep grain makes every stitch critical. Each strap is subject to CITES regulation. Available in lug widths of 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 24mm. From 165€.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ostrich leather and where does it come from?

How do you clean and condition an ostrich leather strap?

Why does an ostrich leather strap start at €165?

First-grade ostrich leather — specifically from the back, where the quills are densest — costs more than calf at the tannery stage. Add to that the handwork: cutting, quill removal, hand-stitching with waxed thread, edge finishing. The price starts at €165 for standard sizes in double layer. For bespoke orders at Casati atelier, pricing varies based on leather grade and requested length.
