Nubuck is not smooth leather. It's leather processed in reverse — the outer surface of the calfskin is sanded until it achieves a velvety, dense, almost matte texture. Applied to Louisiana alligator, this process yields an unusual result: the scales remain visible, the character of the alligator remains intact, but the touch changes completely.
The leather comes from genuine Louisiana alligator, tanned in Tuscany according to traditional Italian techniques. Each strap is hand-stitched, piece by piece. Natural variations in the leather — slight differences in tone, nuances in texture — are not a defect: they are the signature of a living material.
On a Patek Philippe, where craftsmanship is everything, this strap shows the same respect for detail. The lug width of 22mm tapers to 18mm at the clasp, following the typical proportions of the Genevan house's models. The thickness, from 4mm at the lug end to 2mm at the tail end, ensures a slender profile on the wrist and a fit without stiffness.

What makes nubuck different from the glossy alligator you usually sell?
Here the calfskin... actually, the alligator is worked the opposite way. I sand the outer surface until it becomes velvety, almost matte. The scale pattern is still there, visible, but under your fingers it no longer feels glossy: it feels like a dense, textural surface.
What are the lug width and buckle width?
22mm at the lugs, tapering to 18mm at the buckle. These are the right proportions for Patek Philippe models. The thickness goes from 4mm at the base to 2mm at the tip: it stays flat on the wrist and doesn't flare up.
Is it hand-stitched?
Yes, piece by piece, at the workbench. It's not machine stitching with a finishing touch: it's made entirely by hand from start to finish.
