The sky at dawn has exactly this shade. It is not deep azure, it is not the blue of catalogues — it sits in between, in that territory difficult to name and impossible to ignore. On authentic alligator leather, matte finish, this colour does not reflect light: it absorbs it, holds it, returns it changed.
Matte alligator has a precise character. The scales retain their three-dimensional relief — you feel it under your fingertip before you even look at it — but the matte finish eliminates any complacency. No easy gloss, no signalling. Those who know, recognise. The others do not, and that is fine.
In the Milanese workshops of Milano Straps, every strap passes through the hands of those who know the difference between a stitch that holds and a stitch merely made. Waxed thread, hand needle, no shortcuts in the finishing. Alligator leather does not forgive approximations — and we do not ask it to.
Matte azure works with brushed steel, with white gold, with platinum. It pairs naturally with light dials, with greys, with deep navy blues. What sizes are available for this strap?
Five widths: 18, 19, 20mm with a 16mm lug width, then 21 and 22mm with an 18mm lug width. It covers everything from dress watches to more structured cases. Fixed length of 115mm on the long side, 75mm on the short side, suitable for wrists from 16 to 20cm.
Why does the thickness change along the strap?
3.5mm at the lug, 2.5mm at the buckle. At the lug, the leather supports the weight of the case without warping. Toward the closure, it tapers to flex well on the wrist. A strap with a single thickness is either too stiff or too soft.
What buckles can I pair it with?
Steel, yellow gold-plated, rose gold-plated, or black PVD. You'll find all of them available for every width in the catalogue.
Does the cognac colour stay the same over time?
The Millennium finish retains the depth of the colour rather than sealing it under a film. The dye shading between the scales remains visible from the very start. With use, the strap adapts to the wrist, but the sheen doesn't dull or flake off as it would with traditional glazed leather.
Where does the alligator come from and how is it traced?
Mississippiensis alligator, belly cut, the area most sought after by collectors for its smaller, more regular scale pattern. It is CITES Appendix II certified: every strap leaving the workshop comes with its own documented traceability.
