The sky at dawn has exactly this shade. It is not deep azure, it is not the blue of catalogues — it sits in between, in that territory difficult to name and impossible to ignore. On authentic alligator leather, matte finish, this colour does not reflect light: it absorbs it, holds it, returns it changed.
Matte alligator has a precise character. The scales retain their three-dimensional relief — you feel it under your fingertip before you even look at it — but the matte finish eliminates any complacency. No easy gloss, no signalling. Those who know, recognise. The others do not, and that is fine.
In the Milanese workshops of Milano Straps, every strap passes through the hands of those who know the difference between a stitch that holds and a stitch merely made. Waxed thread, hand needle, no shortcuts in the finishing. Alligator leather does not forgive approximations — and we do not ask it to.
Matte azure works with brushed steel, with white gold, with platinum. It pairs naturally with light dials, with greys, with deep navy blues. With Rolex Datejust, Omega Seamaster, Patek Philippe Calatrava, IWC Portofino, Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, Grand Seiko, Tudor Black Bay: wherever there is a timepiece that deserves attention to detail.
It is not a strap for sporting use, for frequent rain, for wrists over 20cm or cases larger than 22mm. It is a strap for those who already know all this — and have chosen accordingly.

Patina is the signature of time.
Alligator doesn't wear down: it matures. The first months on the wrist soften its flank, light darkens the ridges just slightly, and the colour deepens. We treat it with neutral oils, no varnish to smother the grain: what you take home isn't finished, it's only beginning.
The next step
The right strap isn’t chosen. It is built, together.
From the atelier appointment to delivery, every step is made for those who know that things done well take time. Rare leathers, one piece at a time, eighteen months of warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the matte finish on alligator tend to polish with daily use?
Over time and with regular contact, the most stressed areas — particularly around the buckle and in the first holes — may develop slight natural shine. It’s a slow process and, for many collectors, part of the leather’s character. Those wishing to maintain uniform matte finish can occasionally apply a neutral cream specific to exotic leathers, avoiding polishing products.
Does this matte blue work with colored dials, or is it designed only for neutral dials?
It’s conceived primarily for light, grey, and navy blue dials, where the matte blue creates chromatic continuity without competing. With green or black dials it works equally well — the contrast is sharp but balanced. Avoid pairing with intense orange or burgundy dials, where the two colors tend to clash rather than dialogue.
How much does an alligator strap weigh compared to a calf one, and is the difference noticeable on the wrist?
Alligator leather is structurally denser than box-calf, but the contained thickness — 3.5mm tapered to 2.5mm — keeps overall weight reduced. On the wrist one does not perceive a significant weight difference; what one perceives instead is greater consistency in grip and a different softness of adaptation, more gradual than calf.
Is the CITES certification included in the package at the time of purchase?
Yes. Every alligator leather strap from Milano Straps is accompanied by the related CITES documentation, which certifies its legal origin and compliance with international regulations on protected species trade. The documentation is necessary in some countries for private import and is always provided with shipping included.
