Straps for Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch — the Moon's watch

The Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional took astronauts to the Moon in 1969. The lug width is 20mm on almost all models – some vintage models prior to 1959 have 19mm lugs.

20mm: The NASA measurement

The Speedmaster Moonwatch has 20mm lugs from the Caliber 321 (1957) to the current Caliber 3861 models. Only a few very rare pre-1959 vintages have 19mm lugs – if you have one, filter below by size. For the contemporary Moonwatch: black Hornback alligator for the evening, Japanese cognac cordovan for daily wear, swift calfskin for business watches. The 42mm Hesalite case of the Moonwatch Sapphire lends itself to straps with a slight taper (20/18mm) or standard (20/20mm).

What lug width does my Omega Speedmaster have?

In the Milano Straps watch archive you'll find your specific reference, also from the "Find your watch's measurement" box on every product page. Alternatively, send a photo on WhatsApp with the "Check on WhatsApp" button, or photograph it on app.milanostraps.it, which recognises it. Only as a last resort should you measure with callipers between the two lugs: never a ruler alone.

Does the Moonwatch always have a 20mm lug width?

In the archive, a good portion of Speedmaster Moonwatch models have a 20mm lug width, while a minority — mostly older versions — take 19mm. For your specific piece it's best to check the watch archive or send us a photo on WhatsApp: the reference makes the difference.

What leathers are available for Speedmaster straps in the atelier?

Alligator and cordovan are leathers often chosen for a Moonwatch, but the choice remains yours depending on the style you're after. Every ready-made piece has its price listed on its product page.

Do the Speedmaster families (Broad Arrow, Reduced, '57...) all have the same lug width?

No. Among Speedmaster Moonwatch, Broad Arrow, Reduced, '57, X-33/Z-33, Chronoscope and Dark Side of the Moon the lug widths vary: in the archive 20mm prevails, but 18mm, 19mm and 21mm also appear depending on the model. Look up your reference in the watch archive or send us a photo on WhatsApp to get the correct measurement.

Can I have a bespoke strap made for my Speedmaster?

Bespoke work isn't done by Milano Straps but by Casati Milano, by appointment only at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. For information and appointments, you'll find everything at casatimilano.com.
