Handmade in Italy Selected leathers

Saffiano is instantly recognizable: that cross-hatch pattern hot-stamped onto the leather, dense and regular, which repels water and maintains its shape over time. In black, with ecru stitching running lengthwise down the strap, the contrast is stark and intentional—not merely decorative.

The leather is Italian, tanned according to traditional methods that make saffiano one of the longest-lasting materials in the world of small leather goods. It doesn't soften like smooth calfskin, nor does it deform like some overly soft leathers: it maintains its profile, tension, and geometry. These are characteristics that make a difference on an Apple Watch—worn every day, in every condition.

The ecru thread stitching is not merely an aesthetic flourish. It is a sign of a precise choice: to add character without distortion. The black handles daily wear, while the ecru reminds one that craftsmanship lies beneath.

Produced in Italy, in an atelier that does not use the term "Made in Italy" as a marketing label.

Apple Watch Band in Black Saffiano Leather with Ecru Stitching

It isn't afraid of scratches.

The cross-hatched grain is armour: it shrugs off scratches and rain where full-grain would mark. It changes little over time, and that's its virtue — wear it every day and it stays itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

But saffiano really won't get damaged by water? I wear my Apple Watch in the shower.

The cross-hatched pattern of saffiano repels water by construction — it’s heat-pressed into the leather and creates a surface that doesn’t absorb. It’s not chemical water-repellent, it’s leather geometry. That said, the saffiano strap maintains its shape even in humid conditions, so it won’t deform like other leathers. You can use it regularly in the shower without issue. If you soak it for hours, it’s still leather: let it air dry afterward.

Will these ecru stitches turn grey after three months of wear? How do you maintain them?

The ecru thread is natural, untreated chemically to stay pristine. It will absorb some of your skin, daily dirt, sweat. It won’t turn dirty grey as it might seem, but will lose that initial whiteness and settle on a darker ivory — the true material appearance the strap develops over time. This is part of the design, not a flaw. If cleaning is needed, a lightly damp cloth is enough.

Compatible with which Apple Watch? I need to know before ordering.

The strap is built for 20mm lug width, which is the standard for medium-sized Watches (most models). If your Watch has 20mm lugs, it fits and holds. If you’re unsure about your lug width, you need to verify it on your specific model — we don’t provide compatibility for individual models, that should come from Apple or your technical specifications.

I know Italian leather and Japanese leather (like Shinki) age differently. How does this saffiano transform over two years of daily wear?

Saffiano is one of the most stable materials in leatherwork — the heat-pressed pattern keeps it rigid, the geometry remains. It doesn’t develop the soft patina of smooth calf or the color depth of shell cordovan. What happens is: black stays black, the pattern can darken slightly with use and dirt, ecru stitches integrate into the overall tone of the strap. It’s less dramatic than the aging of other leathers — it’s stability, not transformation.

Will the strap look the same if I buy it today or in six months? Or are the leather variations you mention in the description so marked that one batch isn’t like another?

Leather is leather — each animal, each tannery produces natural variations in tone and texture. In black saffiano, differences aren’t dramatic (not like natural calf that has obvious markings), but if you compare two straps at the same moment, you might notice a black slightly warmer or cooler, the pattern more or less pronounced. If you order today and then again in six months: you’ll likely get slightly different batches. If that’s a concern for you, it’s worth asking for specific details at the time of order.
