Spring bars Rolex Submariner 1680 yellow gold — 20mm
€14,95
Set of two spring bars for Rolex Submariner reference 1680 in yellow gold, made of hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin diameter: 2.0mm. Compatible with the entire 1680 gold production, from 1969 to 1980 — the first Submariner with the date, in both the red dial and white dial variants.
On the 1680, the lugs are drilled. The pin works against an open hole and requires the 2.0mm — the modern 1.5mm diameter has play here. Even though the case is gold, the spring bars remain steel: it is the original Rolex specification, and it makes sense. Hardened steel does not deform under load, gold does.
When I work on a 1680 gold in the atelier, these are the spring bars I fit. Same piece, same supplier.

Domande Frequenti
I have a 1680 oro from '72 and I want to change the spring bars. Are these the right ones or am I going to mess things up?
They're compatible. Works with the entire 1680 oro production run from 1969 to 1980, both red and white dial. Key detail: on the 1680, the lugs are drilled and the pin must be 2.0mm in diameter — that's what you'll find here. If you try to fit a modern 1.5mm pin, it'll rattle in the hole. When I mount a 1680 oro in the atelier, these are the exact pieces I use.
Why are they still steel if the case is gold? Isn't that odd?
No, it's the original Rolex specification and there's a concrete reason: tempered steel won't deform under load, gold will. If you fitted gold spring bars on a 1680, they'd give way. Steel keeps the strap secure without risk.
What's the exact lug-to-lug measurement?
20mm. That's the standard lug width on the 1680, the measurement you'll find on any period example.
If I have a 1680 steel, do these work just the same or do I need different pieces?
These are specific to the 1680 oro. I can't tell you if they fit the steel version because I don't have compatibility data for it. If you own a 1680 steel, it's best to contact us directly for that.
Where do these spring bars come from? Are they old stock or do you make them yourselves?
They're Swiss Standard tempered steel, same supplier we use when working 1680 oro in the atelier. It's not salvaged old stock, it's new material built to the original specification.
