The 34 is the middle size that many discover only once on the wrist: compact case, 18mm lugs — not the 19 of the vintage pieces, not the 20 of the 36. Those who order the wrong spring bar usually get it wrong right here. Closed shoulder, 1.5mm compression pin, and the strap stays where you put it.

But does the 1.5mm really leave no play in the lug? With straps I change frequently, I’m worried it might loosen over time
No, the 1.5mm fits perfectly into the closed lug seat of modern watches. The play is exactly what you need, nothing more. The point is it works under compression on the lug, not under push like the old 2.0mm pins. That vintage measurement doesn’t even fit here — I tested it on a 116200, the spring bends before closing. If you use the correct 1.5mm, the lug seat won’t deteriorate and the pin will hold properly every time.
How often should I replace them? Does the pin really fail that easily?
It depends on how often you change your strap. If you do it frequently, I replace them with every strap change. The pin works under compression every day — constant, microscopic movement. Eventually the spring will give, it’s not a matter of robustness but mechanics. Better to have a fresh set always on hand than find yourself with a clasp that won’t close properly when you’re away from home.
They’re tempered Swiss Standard steel — does that mean they last longer than generic steel?
Swiss Standard is the benchmark for the watchmaking industry; the tempering guarantees it maintains its shape under stress. But it’s not about longevity in the sense of lasting decades — it’s that the spring retains the correct elasticity for compression. The give is physiological to the mechanism, not a flaw in the steel.
Do they work on all modern 36mm Rolex or are there models that might have a different lug?
They fit Datejust 36 (116200, 126200, also the older 16200), modern Oyster Perpetual 36 and 39, recent Air-King. Those are the certified models where I’ve tested and measured. If you have another reference, contact me first — lug seats depend on case design and not all modern models have the same seat.
Is it worth changing them even if the strap isn’t yours, or only on Milano Straps straps?
It doesn’t matter whose strap it is. The pin is a consumable; it works every time you install and remove it. If you frequently change your watch’s strap — whether it’s Straps, vintage leather, fabric — eventually the pin will fail. Better to have the replacement set ready rather than improvise with a failing pin.
