Set of two spring bars for Rolex GMT-Master reference 1675, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin diameter: 2.0mm. For the entire 1675 production, from 1959 to 1980 — the GMT that defined the model, with original Pepsi and Coke bezels.

The 1675 is one of the most sought-after vintage Rolex references, and also one of the most mistreated when it comes to strap changes. Drilled lugs, 2.0mm pins. Full stop. The modern 1.5mm doesn’t do its job here: I once saw a 1971 1675 lose its strap on the motorway because of the wrong spring bars. It was saved by pure luck.

When I work on a 1675 in the atelier, I always fit these spring bars. Original specification, the same diameter Rolex used.

Domande Frequenti

I have a 1675 from 1972 with a vintage strap I like, but when I change watches the strap slips off. Are these the correct spring bars?

Yes. The 20mm drilled lugs with 2.0mm pins are the original specification that Rolex fitted on the 1675 throughout production from 1959 to 1980. If your strap has standard drilled lugs, these will fit properly. Caution: many people today use 2.0mm pins because it has become modern, but on a 1675 it does not function as it should — I have seen straps come off literally in the street for this reason.

How do I know if my vintage strap is compatible with these spring bars?

Look at the strap lugs: they must be drilled (not solid). If you see the hole running through where the spring bar enters, then it is the right setup. There are two pieces, one on each side of the watch. Measure 20mm between the lugs — that is the 1675 standard.

Do these spring bars keep the vintage strap stable or is this one of those temporary solutions?

They are tempered Swiss Standard steel: this is not a temporary solution. It is the same technical specification that Rolex fitted on the 1675 in the factory. When I change a strap on a 1675 in the workshop, I always install these. If the strap lugs are intact, the stability depends on the strap, not on the spring bars.

If the pin is 2.0mm and today 1.5mm is used, why is the difference so important on a 1675?

Because the modern 1.5mm was standardized for later watches, but the 1675 was designed with tolerances around 2.0mm. The fit between the pin and the drilled lug is tighter and more precise, so the spring bar does not rattle inside the lug. With the thinner pin, even if it fits, there is play — and with repeated strap movement that play becomes a problem.

Do the spring bars come alone or do I need help to install them?

They are two individual pieces. Installation is straightforward if you know the technique — you need to insert the spring bar into the drilled lugs and snap it into the watch’s seats. If you have never done it before, better to have it done for you: it requires the right tool and the technique is not trivial. A craftsman takes three minutes, but done wrong you risk scratching the case.
