Set of two spring bars for Rolex Daytona reference 16528 in 18-carat yellow gold, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin diameter: 1.8mm. For the entire 16528 production, from 1988 to 2000 — the first automatic Daytona with modified Zenith El Primero movement.
The 16528 is the Daytona of serious collectors. Zenith movement recalibrated by Rolex, 18k gold case, drilled lugs on the early production years. The 1.8mm pin specification: it holds better than the 1.5mm against vintage drilled lugs, and doesn’t force the seat in soft gold the way a full 2.0mm would.

Is the 1.8mm diameter really necessary for the 16528, or can I use a standard 1.5mm pin?
With the 16528 you need to be careful. Early models have drilled lugs, and the 1.5mm can move inside the cavity, especially if the strap is vintage and wear has enlarged the hole. The 1.8mm fits snugly without forcing the soft gold of the case. If your 16528 is from the late 2000s with solid lugs, the standard 1.5mm works, but with drilled lugs it’s a different story.
Can I use these spring bars on a steel 16520, or are they only for gold?
No, these are specific to the 16528 gold with the 1.8mm pin. The 16520 in steel has different lugs and uses the standard 1.5mm pin. It’s not compatible, and forcing our larger pin into the 16520 will damage the cavity. Each Daytona has its own geometry — choosing the wrong one is not economy, it’s damage.
What’s the difference between your tempered steel and a standard spring bar?
Ours is Swiss Standard, cold-tempered for hardness and torsion resistance. A cheap spring bar bends under the screwdriver; ours doesn’t — it holds its position straight and won’t deform even after years of installations. With 18k gold on your 16528, you can’t afford pins that give way; it’s the spring bar that must be reliable, not the case.
Does this set cover replacement on both sides of the 16528?
Yes, the set contains two spring bars. One for each side of the case, which is standard so you’re not left halfway through. If you use one and the second wears out in the future, you can order them individually, but in the meantime you’re covered for a complete strap change.
