Spring bars GMT-Master II 16718 gold — 20mm blind lugs
€20,95
Set of two spring bars for Rolex GMT-Master II 16718 in yellow gold with closed lugs, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin 1.5mm. The 16718 is the gold GMT-Master II produced from 1989 to 2007, in the closed-lug variant for the final productions of the 2000s.
The 16718 has two phases: first series with drilled lugs (1989-2003), second series with closed lugs (2003-2007). This is the second: pin 1.5mm, sealed hole. On the leather strap one notices the difference — on the drilled 16718 it is removed with a direct pin pusher, on the closed-lug version only with a side fork tool.
I keep them in the drawer for the closed-lug 16718. Same supplier.

Domande Frequenti
Can I use these spring bars on my 1990s 16718 with drilled lugs?
No, they are not compatible. Your drilled 16718 (1989-2003) uses 1.5mm pins but with an open slot: these are specific to the blind lugs of the second series (2003-2007). The slot geometry is different and the pin would not find proper seating.
What is the difference between drilled and blind lugs beyond aesthetics?
The slot where the pin enters: in drilled lugs it is open on one side (quick removal with a pointed tool), in blind lugs it is sealed and requires a spring bar tool for extraction. The pin is the same (1.5mm), but the seat geometry changes completely.
Is one spring bar enough if one breaks, or do I need to replace both?
You can replace just the broken one. The set contains two pieces for convenience, but there is no requirement to install them simultaneously. However, I recommend replacing them together if you wear the watch regularly: if one broke from wear, the other is not far from that condition.
Does this spring bar work on third-party 20mm watch straps?
Technically yes, if the strap has blind lugs and a slot compatible with 1.5mm Swiss Standard pins. But it is designed and tested on 16718 geometry: on other watches I cannot guarantee a perfect fit. It depends on how the manufacturer cut the slot.
