The lug width of the M1-42-13-MB is 22mm, the international standard for professional diver watches with 44mm case diameter. This measurement ensures proportional balance and secure attachment. To measure accurately, remove the original strap and measure the metal lug seat at the case ends—not the case diameter itself.

For intensive diving use, we recommend alligator leather treated with natural tannins: lacustrine hide resists saltwater corrosion, improves with patina over time, and does not rot. For hassle-free practicality, polyester NATO straps or vulcanised natural rubber offer zero maintenance and instant post-dive drying.

Strap replacement requires removal of the spring bars using a dedicated tool. Position the watch with lugs facing upward, locate the small lateral hole beneath each lug, insert the extractor with precision, and release the spring. Install the new strap by reversing the process, ensuring the bars click fully into position.

All straps with 22mm lug width are compatible, including alligator, shell cordovan, calf, NATO, and rubber options from specialist suppliers. Always verify that total length is appropriate for your wrist—professional divers require straps at least 24cm long to wear over wetsuit protection.

Durability depends on tanning and material. Alligator lasts 8-12 years in intensive marine use; vegetable-tanned calf 4-6 years if maintained with freshwater rinses post-dive. Vulcanised rubber straps last 5-7 years before hardening; polyester NATO 10+ years. Post-immersion maintenance (rinse, dry, condition) significantly extends service life.
