Spring bars Rolex Submariner 5513 — 20mm drilled lugs
€12,95
Set of two spring bars for Rolex Submariner reference 5513, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin diameter: 2.0mm. Compatible with the entire 5513 production, from 1962 to 1989 — the no-date Submariner with the longest production history in the Rolex catalogue.
On the 5513, the lugs are drilled throughout almost the entire production, up until the late 1980s. The pin works against a through-hole and requires the 2.0mm. Fitting the modern 1.5mm here is a mistake I see arrive regularly: strap that detaches, panicked customer, disassembly to understand what happened.
I fit them in the atelier every time I work on a 5513. Same part, same supplier, same diameter Rolex used sixty years ago.

Domande Frequenti
I have a 5513 from '75 and the strap keeps coming off. I was told it would be enough to change the spring bars, but which ones exactly do I need?
The correct ones are our 20mm spring bars with 2.0mm pins. What often happens is someone installs modern 1.5mm pins thinking they work everywhere — they don’t. The 5513 has drilled lugs, the pin has to go into the through hole and work there. With 1.5mm you get play, the strap moves around and comes loose. I install them the way Rolex did in '62.
Do these spring bars work on all 5513s or only certain years?
They work on the entire production run, from 1962 to 1989. The 5513 is a long story — forty years without a date. The only thing that changes in the late eighties is that toward the end non-drilled lugs start to appear, but until almost the end of production what you need is the 2.0mm. If you’re unsure, look at your lugs: if they’re drilled, it’s ours.
They are Swiss Standard steel — does that mean they are original Rolex?
No. They are tempered Swiss Standard steel, the same standard Rolex used. They are not original parts removed from Rolex — they are new spring bars, built to specification. I say this clearly because I see people who get confused. They are what you need for a 5513, made properly, from the same material and hardness as what they installed.
I receive the set and want to install them myself — is there anything I should know first?
That you need a working spring bar tool. The hole is through-drilled on the 5513, so the pin goes in one side and comes out the other — it’s not like modern ones where the pin is lever-operated. You have to slide the pin through the hole, not apply force. If you’ve never done it, the advice is to have it done at the atelier the first time, so you see how it goes. The second time you’ll do it yourself.
If I buy the set, how many times can I install and remove them before they wear out?
The pin is tempered, it’s not a disposable part. I regularly install and remove them on 5513s that come into the atelier. The point is not to strip the pin — if it goes into the through hole properly, the work is clean. It’s not about the number of times, it’s how you do it. If you treat them right, they last.
