Set of two spring bars for Rolex Sea-Dweller reference 16660, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin 2.0mm. Drilled lugs. The 16660 is the second Sea-Dweller, produced from 1978 to 1989 — nicknamed Triple Six for the 1220m (4000ft) depth and the three 6s engraved on the caseback numbers.
The 16660 is the technical leap between the 1665 and the 16600. Sapphire crystal in place of Plexi, doubled depth rating, revised helium escape valve. The lugs remain drilled until the end of production: 20mm × 2.0mm. For those who collect vintage Sea-Dwellers, the 16660 is the midpoint between the earlier 1665 (rare, expensive) and the modern 16600 (more accessible). The right spring bars are part of doing the work properly.

Are these spring bars compatible only with the 16660 or do they work on other vintage Sea-Dwellers?
They are specific to the 16660: 20mm lug width, 2.0mm pin, drilled lugs. The earlier 1665 uses 20mm but with a different pin; the later 16600 has non-drilled lugs. If you own another vintage reference, verify the measurements before ordering.
Is the 2.0mm pin the Rolex standard or something particular?
It is the Swiss standard for wristwatches of the 16660 calibre. Rolex used it throughout the Sea-Dweller series until the end of drilled-lug production. If you order generic aftermarket parts, always check the diameter: even a 0.1mm difference creates retention issues.
Do drilled lugs require different installation compared to solid ones?
No, the procedure is identical: insert the pin through the bracelet lugs, then position the spring bar in the watch lugs. Drilled lugs complicate nothing — the hole is merely a Rolex design feature from that period, used to reduce weight and for internal design reasons.
How long do they last before losing elasticity?
Swiss-standard tempered steel: 8-12 years with regular use, longer if stored. Tension degrades gradually — they do not break suddenly. When you notice the bracelet starting to move on the lugs, it is time to replace them. Preventive maintenance on a vintage piece such as the 16660 is inexpensive.
