Spring bars Rolex GMT-Master 6542 gold — 20mm
€14,95
Set of two spring bars for Rolex GMT-Master 6542 in yellow gold, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin 2.0mm. Drilled lugs. The 6542 is the first GMT-Master in history, produced from 1955 to 1959 — the watch of the Pan Am pilots that invented the dual time zone.
The gold 6542 is one of the rarest pieces in the entire Rolex vintage production. Pepsi bakelite bezel, small crown, 18kt case. Original leather straps almost all lost to time, and the few survivors need replacement. The spring bars for the 6542 are identical to those of the 1675: 20mm drilled, 2.0mm pin. Same technical family, same specification.
The same spring bars for every vintage 6542 I work on in the atelier.

Domande Frequenti
Will these spring bars work well with my original gold 6542, or do I risk damaging the lugs?
They work perfectly — they are identical to the original Rolex bars for the 6542. The lugs are drilled and the 2.0mm pin is the Rolex standard for this model. The only risk lies in installation if you use heavy-handed tools: use a thin spring bar tool and apply pressure straight on, without angles.
Can I use these 20mm bars on other vintage Rolex watches or only on the 6542?
Also on the 1675 GMT-Master (Rolex confirmed this in their documentation) and on other Rolex watches with 20mm lug width and drilled lugs. However, first measure your lugs with calipers — not all years and references have exactly the same drilling and geometry.
Is the 2.0mm pin truly identical to the original, or is it an approximation?
It is identical — 2.0mm is the Swiss Standard Rolex specification for this era. What matters is the bar length (20mm between shoulders) and the fact that the lugs are drilled: if there is any tenth of a millimeter tolerance, you will only notice it by feel and it does not affect safety.
How many times can I install and uninstall these spring bars before they wear out?
Hardened Swiss Standard steel handles dozens of cycles without issue. The real wear occurs on the watch case lugs, not the bar itself. If your 6542 lugs are original and still in good condition, these spring bars will last as long as the watch — you will likely never replace them once installed.
