Spring bars Rolex GMT-Master 16700 — 20mm × 2.0mm
€12,95
Set of two spring bars for Rolex GMT-Master reference 16700, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin diameter: 2.0mm. For the entire 16700 production, from 1988 to 1999 — the transitional GMT that replaced the 1675, retaining the drilled lugs.
The 16700 is the GMT that few understand. Released in 1988, in production until 1999, it is Rolex’s last non-II GMT-Master. An already modern case, but still with drilled lugs. 2.0mm pin, as on the 1675 and the early 16710. It is consistent with the vintage Rolex specification for the through-hole.
When I see a 16700 arrive at the atelier, these are the spring bars I fit. The same piece I used on my own 16710 before 2003.

Domande Frequenti
I have a 16700 from 1993 and the original strap is now worn. Do these spring bars install directly, or do I need to check something before ordering?
They install directly. These are the same ones I use in the workshop when a 16700 comes in for service. The only thing to check is that the case lugs aren’t deformed — if they’re intact, these 20mm × 2.0mm bars fit exactly as they came out of Rolex in 1988.
My 16700 is from 1995 and I’ve seen around that some 16710 models use different pins. Are these compatible with all 16700 watches or are there variations?
They’re for the entire 16700 production run, from 1988 to 1999. The 16700 keeps the drilled lugs with the 2.0mm pin throughout its cycle. It’s when the 16710 arrives that Rolex starts changing, but the first 16710 still uses the same pin. If yours is a pure 16700, these work.
Why a set of two? Don’t I only need one to change the strap?
Officially you need one per lug, so two for the watch. But the reason for selling them in pairs is to have a spare — if one bends or the wire gets damaged, you have a second. Over time, the 2.0mm pin can wear. Better to have one in reserve.
Is it Swiss Standard steel like the original Rolex, or is it a simplification for the catalog?
It’s tempered Swiss Standard steel. That’s what Rolex used on the 16700. It’s not a shortcut — it’s the correct specification for this watch and its period.
I’ve heard the 16700 is a ‘forgotten’ model. What makes it different from other GMTs?
It’s the last non-II GMT-Master. The case is already modern — the design is what we recognize today — but the lugs remain drilled, like on the earlier 1675. It’s a GMT suspended between two generations. Not many understand it, and that’s what makes it interesting to service properly. If you have a 16700 and mount it with the right parts, it works as intended.
