Set of two spring bars for Rolex Day-Date 40, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 21mm between the lugs. Pin diameter: 1.5mm. Compatible with the 228235 rose gold, 228238 yellow gold, 228239 white gold, 228206 platinum and the more recent 228396TBR.
The Day-Date 40 introduced in 2015 replaces the Day-Date II 41mm with a more balanced geometry. 40mm case, 21mm lug, 1.5mm pin — the same measurement as the Sub 126610 and GMT 126710. Even on the President in gold or platinum the pin remains steel: the Day-Date 40 has the same structural requirement as the sport tools.

Can I use these spring bars on other Rolex models besides the Day-Date 40?
Yes, these are the same ones I fit on Submariner 126610 and GMT-Master II 126710. If your watch has a 21mm lug width and 1.5mm pin, they will work. The pin geometry is identical whether the Rolex is in gold or platinum — the pin remains steel on all models.
What is the risk if the pin is slightly worn or the lug is enlarged?
If the lug is enlarged, the spring bar will not hold the strap stable and can slip. If the pin is worn, the shoulder of the spring bar has no support and risks bending under the weight of the strap. In both cases you must have the lug inspected before installing new spring bars.
How do I know if my Day-Date 40 has the correct 1.5mm pin?
Measure the diameter with a digital caliper on the pin of the old spring bar. If it is 1.5mm, good. If it differs even by 0.1mm, installation will be difficult or risky — do not force it, because you will damage the lug.
How difficult is it to change them myself without damaging the case?
With the right tool (a spring bar tool with a curved shoulder) it is simple if the lug is not worn. The real risk is if you try to use a screwdriver or pointed instrument — that will damage the case. If you have never done it before, it is better to have a watchmaker do the first change.
