Set of two spring bars for Rolex Day-Date reference 1803 in yellow gold, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin 1.8mm. Drilled lugs. The 1803 is the first modern Day-Date, produced from 1959 to 1979 — twenty years of production, acrylic Plexi crystal, calibre 1555/1556, one of the most important Rolex references in history.
The 1803 is the quintessential classic President. 36mm case in 18kt gold, fluted or polished bezel, President bracelet or leather strap. Drilled lugs and 1.8mm pin — an intermediate specification between the 2.0mm sport and the modern 1.5mm dress. Even on solid gold the pin remains hardened steel: 18kt gold cannot withstand the cyclic load of a heavy President bracelet.

What size are these spring bars?
20mm between the lugs, 1.8mm pin. This is the correct size for the Day-Date 1803, not for other references.
Why is the pin made of steel and not gold, if the case is 18kt gold?
Because 18kt gold cannot withstand the cyclic load of a heavy President bracelet. The pin remains hardened Swiss Standard steel even on a solid gold case.
Are they suitable for non-drilled lugs?
No. These spring bars are designed for drilled lugs, like those on the 1803.
Is the 1.8mm pin the same as on more recent Day-Date models?
No. The 1.8mm is an intermediate size between the 2.0mm of sports models and the 1.5mm of modern dress models. This is the specification for the 1803.
Do they work with both a President bracelet and a leather strap?
Yes. The 1803 is fitted with either a President bracelet or a leather strap, and the spring bars are the same in both cases.
