Set of two spring bars for Rolex Yacht-Master 16628 in yellow gold, in tempered Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin 1.5mm. The 16628 is Rolex’s first 40mm gold Yacht-Master, produced from 1992 to 2010 — the brand’s first watch sold exclusively in solid gold.

The 16628 is a Yacht-Master with drilled-through lugs from the very first series. Maxi case proto-type before the 116622, standard drilled-hole geometry. The 1.5mm pin is the correct one. When a client brings in a 16628 for a leather strap, these are the spring bars. They often choose custom Casati in crocodile or alligator — the first gold Yacht-Master is a piece deserving of noble leather.

The same component I fit on my clients’ 16628 watches.

Domande Frequenti

Is the 1.5mm pin really the correct one for the 16628? I read that some Yacht-Masters use 1.6mm.

No, the 16628 is fitted with 1.5mm — it’s the standard size for this model from the first series. If you find references to 1.6mm, they likely refer to later versions such as the 116622. Always verify on your watch: a pin that’s slightly too wide will force into the cavity and damage the lug.

Can I use these spring bars on another Yacht-Master or only on the 16628?

Technically yes if the other models have the same blind cavity geometry and 1.5mm pin, but it’s not guaranteed. The 16628 has very specific lugs — before fitting to another watch, compare the cavities with a photo or take the watch in to be measured.

If I order a Casati bracelet, do I need to tell them I want these spring bars or are they already included in the shipment?

Casati already knows: when you bring a 16628 in for a custom bracelet, these are the standard spring bars they use. If you order online, simply specify the 16628 model and they’ll fit the correct ones. If you want to be sure, ask for confirmation via email before paying.

Are they fragile? Can I change them myself or do I risk damaging the gold lug?

Tempered steel is robust, but the risk is in the lugs: if you use an unsuitable tool and scratch the cavity, on a solid gold watch you’ll see everything. Use a dedicated bracelet removal tool, don’t improvise. If you’ve never done it before, have a watchmaker do it — it’s not expensive and saves you from damage.
