Set of two spring bars for Rolex Submariner reference 16610 in drilled lug version, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between lugs. Pin 1.8mm. Drilled lugs. The 16610 is the Submariner Date produced from 1988 to 2010 — drilled lug version for 1988-2003 production, before the transition to closed lugs.
The 16610 has two technical eras. First phase 1988-2003: drilled lugs, 1.8mm pin. Second phase 2003-2010: closed lugs, 1.5mm pin. This is the first — the most sought-after by collectors who appreciate the through-hole for direct strap changes with a pin pusher. The 1.8mm pin is the Rolex transitional specification: neither the pure vintage 2.0mm, nor the modern 1.5mm.

How can I tell if my 16610 has drilled lugs?
Look at the hole on the lug, going all the way through. The early 16610 models, produced from 1988 to 2003, have this version. From 2003 to 2010 Rolex switched to blind lugs, without a hole.
Does the 1.8mm pin also work on blind lugs?
No. The blind lugs of the second-generation 16610 use 1.5mm pins. This set is designed for drilled lugs, 1.8mm pins.
What material is it?
Hardened Swiss Standard steel. The same spring bars I fit on every drilled-lug 16610 that comes across the workbench.
Why is the drilled version more sought after?
The through-hole allows the strap to be changed with a punch, without removing the lug. Collectors look for it precisely for this reason.
