Spring bars Rolex Submariner 16610 — 20mm drilled lugs

4.8 Customers rate us 4.8/5 based on 256 reviews.

Set of two spring bars for Rolex Submariner reference 16610 in drilled lug version, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between lugs. Pin 1.8mm. Drilled lugs. The 16610 is the Submariner Date produced from 1988 to 2010 — drilled lug version for 1988-2003 production, before the transition to closed lugs.

The 16610 has two technical eras. First phase 1988-2003: drilled lugs, 1.8mm pin. Second phase 2003-2010: closed lugs, 1.5mm pin. This is the first — the most sought-after by collectors who appreciate the through-hole for direct strap changes with a pin pusher. The 1.8mm pin is the Rolex transitional specification: neither the pure vintage 2.0mm, nor the modern 1.5mm.

The same spring bars on every drilled 16610 I work on in the atelier.

Domande Frequenti

I have a 16610 from 1995 and one from 2005. Will these spring bars work on both?

No. The 1995 yes, the 2005 no. The 16610 has two distinct technical generations: through 2003, drilled lugs with 1.8mm pins (your 1995), from 2003 onward, solid lugs with 1.5mm pins (your 2005). These spring bars are for the first generation only. If you’re unsure of your watch’s exact production year, the quickest way is to inspect the bracelet: if you can insert a spring bar through a drilled hole in the lug, then you have the drilled version and these will fit.

The 1.8mm pin is an odd choice — why not 2.0 vintage or 1.5 modern?

Because that’s what Rolex actually used on the drilled 16610 between 1988 and 2003. It’s not a choice, it’s the specification. When I service a 16610 from that period, I equip it with the spring bars it belongs with. It’s a transitional pin — more robust than the modern 1.5mm, finer than pure vintage 2.0mm — and it’s what functions correctly on your watch.

Two spring bars seem light if I change bracelets frequently. Can I order a set of four or six?

The set is fixed at two pieces. Here’s how it works: if you order two sets, you get four. I don’t do partial selections.

Swiss Standard steel — what does that mean? Is it the same steel as Rolex uses?

It’s steel tempered to Swiss standard specifications. I can’t tell you if it’s identical to the steel in Rolex’s original spring bars, because Rolex doesn’t publish those specs. What I can tell you is that it meets the tolerances and hardness required to do its job on a drilled 16610.

If my 16610 bracelet doesn’t have drilled lugs, these won’t work, correct?

Correct. If your bracelet has no drilled lugs, you’re looking at the solid lug version from 2003 onward. These spring bars are for drilled lugs only. These are purpose-built products — not something to force.
