Set of two spring bars for Rolex Sea-Dweller reference 1665, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin 2.0mm. Drilled lugs. The 1665 is the first Sea-Dweller, produced from 1967 to 1983 — the celebrated Double Red (DRSD) and then the Great White, the first Rolex watch conceived for deep diving with a helium escape valve.
The 1665 operates at 610 metres (610m = Sea-Dweller). A case thicker than the Submariner, tall Plexi crystal, helium escape valve on the flank at 9 o’clock. Drilled lugs, 2.0mm pin — the geometry is that of the vintage Submariner but calibrated for professional underwater loads. A leather strap on a 1665 works, but the spring bars must be the right ones.

However, the geometry is calibrated for the 1665, so the lug-to-lug distance (20mm) and angulation may vary slightly. If you own a 5513 or 1680 Submariner, verify the exact pitch of your lugs first.
Can I use them with modern straps or must they be vintage?
They work with any strap featuring lugs compatible with 2.0mm pins. Modern straps are acceptable if they share the same load geometry. The tempered Swiss Standard steel is robust for contemporary use, but remember that 2.0mm pins are thinner than current standards (often 2.5mm on modern watches).
What is the risk of using non-original spring bars on a functioning 1665?
The primary risk is resistance to failure under repeated underwater pressure. These are tempered Swiss Standard steel, so reliable, but not original Rolex components. If you use the watch in saltwater or serious diving, a pin failure means losing the watch. For collector use in dry conditions, risk is minimal.
How do I install them without damaging the lug holes?
Use a spring bar tool with a flat lever; never force. Insert the pin parallel to the lug, then snap the spring into place. If you feel unusual resistance, stop: it may indicate misalignment. With vintage steel drilled lugs, damage risk is low if done carefully.
