Set of two spring bars for Rolex Sea-Dweller reference 1665, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin 2.0mm. Drilled lugs. The 1665 is the first Sea-Dweller, produced from 1967 to 1983 — the celebrated Double Red (DRSD) and then the Great White, the first Rolex watch conceived for deep diving with a helium escape valve.
The 1665 operates at 610 metres (610m = Sea-Dweller). A case thicker than the Submariner, tall Plexi crystal, helium escape valve on the flank at 9 o’clock. Drilled lugs, 2.0mm pin — the geometry is that of the vintage Submariner but calibrated for professional underwater loads. A leather strap on a 1665 works, but the spring bars must be the right ones.

Frequently asked questions
Are these spring bars compatible with other vintage Rolex Submariner models, or only the 1665?
Technically yes, with vintage Submariners from the same years (1960-70) fitted with 2.0mm pins and drilled lugs. But bear in mind: the geometry is calibrated for the 1665, so the length between the lugs (20mm) and the angle might vary slightly. If you have a Submariner 5513 or 1680, check the exact lug pitch first.
Can I use them with modern straps, or do they need to be vintage?
They work with any strap that has holes compatible with 2.0mm pins. Modern straps are fine if they have the same load geometry. Hardened Swiss Standard steel is robust for modern use, but remember that the 2.0mm pin is thin compared with current standards (often 2.5mm on modern watches).
What is the risk of using non-original spring bars on a still-functioning 1665?
The main risk is resistance to failure under repeated underwater pressure. These are hardened Swiss Standard, so reliable, but they are not Rolex original. If you use the watch in salt water or serious diving, a pin failure means losing the watch. For dry collector use, the risk is minimal.
How do I fit them without damaging the lug holes?
Use a spring bar tool with a flat lever, and never force it. Insert the pin starting parallel to the lug, then let the spring click into place. If you feel unusual resistance, stop: it may mean the pin is not perfectly aligned. With vintage steel lugs with drilled holes, the risk of damage is low if done calmly.
