Spring bars Rolex Explorer — set for the entire line
€12,95
Set of two spring bars for Rolex Explorer, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. The Explorer line includes Explorer I (1016, 14270, 114270, 214270, 124270) and Explorer II (1655, 16550, 16570, 216570, 226570). 20mm lugs on all 36 and 39mm models, 22mm on the 42mm 226570. Pin 1.5mm, 1.8mm or 2.0mm depending on the era.
The vintage 1016 and the Steve McQueen 1655 have drilled lugs and 2.0mm pins. The transitional 14270 moves to 1.8mm. The modern 114270 onwards are 1.5mm on closed lugs. The Explorer is a watch you live with — you change the strap often, and the spring bars too.

Domande Frequenti
I have a vintage 1016 and a modern 114270: can I use the same set of spring bars?
No, you need two different sets. The 1016 has drilled lugs and 2.0mm pins, the 114270 has solid lugs and 1.5mm pins. If you use the wrong pin diameter, the strap will either rattle or won’t fit. Tell me your specific reference and we’ll prepare the correct set.
What is the difference between drilled and solid lugs, and why does it matter?
Drilled lugs (1016, 1655) have through-holes where the pin enters; solid lugs (114270+) have small cavities on one side only. With drilled lugs you use longer pins (2.0mm), with solid lugs shorter ones (1.5mm). Using the wrong pin damages the lug.
How can I tell if my pin is 1.5, 1.8 or 2.0mm without measuring?
The safe way is to check the reference: if the Explorer is pre-1989 it’s almost certainly 2.0mm, from the 14270 (1989) to 2000 it’s 1.8mm, from modern 114270 onwards it’s 1.5mm. If in doubt, send me a photo of the lug and reference, and I’ll measure it for you.
Are the spring bars you install in the atelier the same ones you sell in the set?
Exactly the same. Hardened Swiss Standard steel, tight tolerance. Whether you have a strap fitted to your Explorer by us or do it yourself with these spring bars makes no technical difference: the part is identical.
