Set of two spring bars for Rolex Explorer II reference 216570, in tempered Swiss Standard steel. Size: 21mm between lugs. Pin 2.0mm fat. Drilled-through lugs. The 216570 is the Explorer II produced from 2011 to 2021 — the first 42mm Explorer II, nicknamed Polar (white dial) or BLK (black), with the new Maxi case and orange GMT hand.
The 216570 is unusual in pin diameter: 2.0mm fat on drilled-through lugs. It is not a classic modern standard — on the 216570, Rolex uses a pin wider than the usual 1.5mm to better support the heavy Oyster bracelet of the 42mm case. When a client wishes to fit a leather strap, the 2.0mm spring bars are crucial: the 1.5mm rattles in the lug hole.

Do these spring bars work on an older Explorer II or other Rolex models?
No, these are specific to the 216570. The 2.0mm pin is thicker than the standard 1.5mm found on nearly all other Rolex models, including earlier Explorer II watches. If you try to install them on another watch, you risk forcing the lugs and damaging them. Always verify the pin diameter of your case before ordering.
Can I use them with aftermarket straps or do I need to stick with original Rolex bracelets?
Yes, you can use them with any strap featuring 21mm solid lugs. Many quality aftermarket brands (rubber, leather, fabric) come with standard solid lugs. What matters is that the lugs are compatible with the 2.0mm diameter — if the hole is too tight the pin won’t fit, if too loose the attachment will be sloppy.
How often should I replace them? Is there a risk they could break?
If you change straps once a month, they last for years. Swiss tempered steel is robust. The main risk is lug wear: after many insertion/removal cycles, the pin can become slightly flattened and won’t hold securely. If you notice the strap starting to move laterally, it’s time to replace them.
How do I install them without the Rolex tool?
A decent spring bar tool is essential, not optional for 42mm solid lugs — the pin is tight and pressure is higher. A cheap tool risks slipping and scratching your case. If you lack experience, have a watchmaker do it. I recommend the original Rolex tool or a quality Bergeon alternative.
