Spring bars Rolex Explorer 14270 — 20mm blind lugs
€12,95
Set of two spring bars for Rolex Explorer reference 14270 drilled-lugless version, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between lugs. Pin 1.5mm. Closed lugs. The 14270 is the Explorer I produced from 1989 to 2001 — closed-lug version for the late phase, transition between the vintage 36mm dial and the modern 114270.
The closed-lug 14270 represents the modernisation of the Explorer I. Applied indices in place of the vintage pictograms, sapphire crystal, narrow fixed bezel, reliable calibre 3000. Pin 1.5mm on closed socket: the specification that would become standard on the subsequent 114270. When I work on a closed-lug 14270 for a leather strap, these are the spring bars.
The same piece on every closed-lug 14270.

Changing your strap should be as simple as changing your shoes. With us, it is.
Every strap has integrated quick-release spring bars: swap it in one gesture, no tools, no risk of scratching the lugs. The same watch shifts mood with the moment.

Domande Frequenti
Are these spring bars compatible only with the 14270 solid lugs or do they work on other Explorers?
Only on the 14270 solid lugs. The 14270 open dial (previous version) uses the same 20mm but has open lugs, so the pin engages differently. The modern 114270 instead is 36mm with solid lugs but the pin is finer. Do not interchange: the 1.5mm pin on solid lugs is specific to this transitional phase.
How do I know if my 14270 actually has solid lugs?
Look at the inner side of the lugs: if you see a closed hole with only a small slot where the pin enters, they are solid. If you see the hole pass through completely, they are open. The solid ones are from the late phase, typically after approximately 1995. Check the case serial number to confirm the year.
Is the 1.5mm pin really the correct one or are you selling me the universal one?
It is the 1.5mm Rolex-specific pin from this era, not the 1.6mm universal. The 0.1mm difference seems minimal but on a solid lug it means play or binding. If the bar does not slide smoothly or is too tight, the diameter is wrong: send it back and we will figure out what you have.
Which straps can I use with these spring bars? Only original Rolex?
No, any strap with a 20mm lug width and hole compatible with 1.5mm pin. If you use aftermarket like Tropic or leather, verify that the internal slot was made to the right specification: a hole too wide makes the bar rattle, one too tight locks it up. I install them on vintage Tudor bracelets with the same 20mm as well.
