Set of two spring bars for Rolex Daytona reference 116520 in steel, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin diameter: 1.5mm. Compatible with the entire 116520 production, from 2000 to 2016 — the first modern Daytona without drilled lugs.
The transition from the 16520 (drilled lugs) to the 116520 (closed lugs) changes everything about the strap. It can only be removed with a fork tool, and the pin works in a closed seat. This is why the 1.5mm is needed here — the vintage 2.0mm diameter doesn’t even fit if you try.
When I mount a leather strap on a client’s 116520, these are the spring bars I use. Same piece, same supplier, for years.

I have a 116520 from 2008 and want to fit a leather strap: will these spring bars work or do I need something else?
They’re perfect. They’re compatible with all 116520 production from 2000 to 2016. What matters is that yours has solid lugs (non-drilled): if so, 1.5mm is what you need. If you had an older 16520 with drilled lugs, we couldn’t use these.
Why can’t I use the old 2.0mm spring bars I had from another Rolex?
Because the transition from the drilled lugs of the 16520 to the solid lugs of the 116520 is radical. The closed cavity of the 116520 doesn’t leave room for a 2.0mm pin: it literally won’t fit. The 1.5mm works in that geometry without issues.
Do I need a tool to fit the strap or can I manage differently?
You need a spring bar tool. With the solid lugs of the 116520 you have no alternative: the pin works in a closed cavity and the only clean way is to use the right tool. This isn’t something to improvise with toothpicks.
How long do these spring bars last? When should I replace them?
It depends on how often the watch is taken apart and reassembled. They’re Swiss Standard tempered steel, the same we’ve used for years as a supplier. If the strap stays mounted and you don’t touch it, they last. If you change straps often, eventually they’ll show signs. It’s not something with a fixed expiration.
These are two pieces: do I really need to replace both or can I change just one?
Technically one replacement works, but I recommend doing them as a pair. If one gives out or wears and the other doesn’t, you won’t know when the second one decides to play the same trick. It’s the kind of detail where a complete change gives you more peace of mind.
