Spring bars Datejust 31 gold — 17mm × 1.8mm drilled

4.8 Customers rate us 4.8/5 based on 256 reviews.

Set of two spring bars for Rolex Datejust 31 in yellow gold with drilled lugs, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 17mm between the lugs. Pin 1.8mm. The Datejust 31mm is the mid-size version of the line — larger than the 26 ladies but more compact than the 36 unisex. Narrow 17mm lugs are typical of productions from the Nineties and early Two Thousands.

The 17mm × 1.8mm on drilled lugs is a particularly difficult size to find in the aftermarket. Very few straps are made in 17mm, and almost none with the right spring bars. At Casati Milano I keep stock of 17mm leather and dedicated spring bars: anyone who wants to mount a strap on a gold Datejust 31 finds everything. The drilled lugs allow direct removal with a pin pusher.

The same spring bars on every clients’ gold Datejust 31 with drilled lugs.

Domande Frequenti

Are these spring bars compatible only with the Datejust 31 or do they work on other Rolex models?

Technically, 17mm × 1.8mm is standard for all Rolex models with 17mm lugs, not just the Datejust 31. However, be aware that many models from the 1990s-2000s with this size have lugs that differ in depth and shape. I recommend measuring the exact diameter of your lug before ordering, as a 17mm lug on a Sea-Dweller may not be identical to one on a Datejust.

Is the 1.8mm pin compatible with straps from other brands or only Rolex?

The 1.8mm is a fairly common standard, but not universal. It depends on whether the strap has shaped spring bar seats or not. If you buy an aftermarket leather strap, verify that the internal seats have the correct internal diameter — some brands use 1.75mm or 1.9mm pins. With a 1.8mm pin you should have no issues with genuine Rolex straps or quality third-party straps that respect the standard.

How do you properly install the hollow pin without damaging the spring?

The hollow pin allows you to thread the spring directly into the side holes — no crimping tool needed. Position the spring on both sides of the pin, then push the pin into the lugs with a slight twisting motion and gentle pressure — if it enters easily, the diameter is correct. Avoid using a hammer: finger pressure is sufficient. If it meets significant resistance, the diameter is incorrect.

Are these spring bars truly tempered or do they risk bending over time?

They are made of tempered Swiss Standard steel, so the resistance is certified — they will not bend if installed correctly. The real risk is spring oxidation over time, especially if exposed to sweat or humidity. I recommend inspecting the spring every 2-3 years, and if you see rust, replace it — it costs little and keeps everything in good condition.
