Recycled polyester
Military green isn't meant to please everyone. It's a deliberate choice, almost a silent statement — those who wear it know why.
This NATO strap is made from 100% recycled polyester, crafted in Italy according to MS Lab Straps standards. The raw material has already had a first life: transforming it into a watch strap is a technical gesture even before it is an ethical one. The 1.5mm thickness ensures a flat profile under the watch case, without bulges, even with watches that have a thin case back. The white edges break up the green field with almost graphic precision — a detail that distinguishes a military strap from one that is simply dark.
Buckle and loops in 316L stainless steel: the same used in watchmaking for corrosion resistance. No oxidation, no failures over time.

WHAT WE DID
Milano Straps, always sensitive to the issue of sustainability and the ways in which a luxury product should be produced and distributed, has decided, in its small way, to contribute to the growth of an Eco-Luxury Positive economy.
Recently launched, the MSLabStraps line is a new series of eco-friendly NATO fabric straps made by recycling post-consumer plastic bottles collected in Northern Italy.
From one recycled plastic bottle, two MSLabStraps NATO straps are made.
Through a mechanical, non-chemical recycling process that is 100% Made in Italy certified throughout its fully traceable supply chain, the plastic from the bottles is shredded and transformed into high-quality, high-performance recycled polyester yarns for textile use.
The production of 1 kg of Newlife®, for the same quantity of virgin polymer, allows a reduction in energy consumption of 60%, CO2 emissions of 32%, and water consumption of 94%.
Domande Frequenti
But if it's recycled nylon, after how long does it start to degrade? How long will it really last?
It’s not like virgin nylon that degrades from UV exposure. Here the 100% recycled polyester maintains the same characteristics as the original material — what changes is the story it carries with it. The 316L stainless steel of the buckle and keepers doesn’t give over time, zero oxidation. You’ll see real wear on the white edges, which stain with dirt and history: it’s the sign that the strap is doing its job. With normal use, there’s no technical reason why it should fail.
Is this 1.5mm thickness thin enough for vintage watches with flat casebacks, or will it still create a bulge?
That’s precisely why 1.5mm was chosen. The profile stays flat under the case, even with thin casebacks. It’s not a tactical-bag thickness — it’s calibrated to sit flush against the wrist without causing disturbance.
Is the buckle the real thing or one of those plastic keepers with velcro you see on so many ‘military’ straps online?
Buckle and keepers are 316L stainless steel — metallurgically the same as what’s used in watchmaking. It’s not plastic. What you see are the rings that hold the nylon, in 316L steel as well. No compromises on the hardware.
Are the white edges designed that way or is it just the nylon showing at the cut? If the white scratches, what’s underneath?
They’re the cut itself of the material — recycled nylon has this natural contrast. If they scratch, underneath it’s always the same green. It’s a graphic detail, yes, but born from the materiality of the piece, not from a print-on overlay.
How do you recommend it in the workshop — does it work equally well on a 36mm watch as it does on a 42mm with the same 20mm lug width?
With 20mm lug width you’re in territory that works well from 36 to 40, maximum 42 if the watch design is proportioned. But here it depends more on the case than the strap. If your watch has 20mm lugs, the NATO fits: the total 27cm length gives you room without being bulky. It depends on your wrist and how you feel the case weight, not on the strap.
