Selected leathers
The broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) lives in the freshwater swamps and mangroves of southeastern South America — Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia. A distinct species from the Nile crocodile or the American alligator, with a denser skin grain, less regular geometric pattern, and a coarser, more authentic visual character.
What distinguishes this strap is not the leather itself, but how it has been treated: matte finish, not lacquered. No reflection. The surface absorbs light instead of reflecting it. On a midnight blue dial or brushed steel, the result is a visual coherence rarely achieved with more commercial materials.
The stitching is handmade, carried out by Casati Milano. Each stitch is hand-sewn, with constant tension and strong thread. It is not an aesthetic detail — it is what holds the structure together over time, especially at the stress points near the lugs.
Each piece is unique: natural variations in the caiman's pattern mean that no two straps of the same color are ever identical. This is in the nature of the material, not a defect.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the practical difference between caiman leather and American alligator leather on this type of strap?
Caiman has a tighter grain and a less symmetrical geometric pattern compared to American alligator or Nile crocodile. The visual result is more irregular, wilder — less formal. Those seeking a crocodilian leather strap with decisive character, rather than the classic alligator for dress watches, find in caiman a more personal answer.
Does matte finishing tend to show signs of wear more quickly than glossy finishing?
Quite the opposite: matte finishing conceals surface micro-scratches better, which on a glossy surface are immediately visible. Over time, matte caiman develops a uniform patina that integrates with natural wear. It doesn’t age poorly — it changes.
Which watches does this strap pair best with in terms of lug width?
The available sizes — 20mm, 21mm, and 22mm at the lugs — cover a broad range: from classic wristwatches with 38-40mm cases to more generous sports models. The 20×16mm is ideal for watches like the Longines Master or IWC Portofino; the 22×18mm suits larger cases such as certain Panerai or the Zenith El Primero. If you’re unsure about your watch’s specific size, simply verify your lug width.
Does hand stitching have implications for strap longevity compared to machine stitching?
Hand stitching allows tension control point by point, reducing the risk of localized loosening in high-stress zones — typically near the lugs. A machine-stitched strap is more uniform visually, but less adaptable to the irregularities of natural leather. Over the long term, with equal maintenance, hand stitching tends to remain more intact.
