The broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) lives in the freshwater swamps and mangroves of southeastern South America — Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia. A distinct species from the Nile crocodile or the American alligator, with a denser skin grain, less regular geometric pattern, and a coarser, more authentic visual character.
What distinguishes this strap is not the leather itself, but how it has been treated: matte finish, not lacquered. No reflection. The surface absorbs light instead of reflecting it. On a midnight blue dial or brushed steel, the result is a visual coherence rarely achieved with more commercial materials.
The stitching is handmade, carried out by Casati Milano. Each stitch is hand-sewn, with constant tension and strong thread. It is not an aesthetic detail — it is what holds the structure together over time, especially at the stress points near the lugs.
Each piece is unique: natural variations in the caiman's pattern mean that no two straps of the same color are ever identical. This is in the nature of the material, not a defect.
