The broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) lives in the wetlands of South America — freshwater swamps, mangroves, and still or slow-moving waters in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia. Its hide carries that nature with it: an irregular, lively texture, with a scaling that replicates neither the Nile alligator nor the Asian crocodile. It has a distinct character.
The matte red is a deliberate choice. It doesn't seek the brilliance of lacquer, it doesn't want to attract light — it absorbs it. On the wrist, against any dark or white dial, it creates a contrast that speaks for itself. The ecru thread stitching tightens each stitch by hand, one by one, following the profile of the scales without forcing them.
A strap like this is not neutral. It's a statement of taste made in a hushed tone, in the choice of material and color — not in volume.
Technical specifications:
Note: Each hide is unique. Variations in tone and scaling compared to the images are an intrinsic part of the material, not a defect.

Picked for you
The broad-snouted caiman has a more irregular and pronounced scale pattern compared to Nile alligatore or American crocodile. The texture is less uniform, wilder—and for many collectors that is precisely the point. It is an exotic leather with a distinct visual character, not an economical alternative to alligatore, but an autonomous stylistic choice.
The matte finish is more susceptible to micro-abrasions than polished lacquer, but this is not necessarily a disadvantage. Over time it develops a discreet patina that makes the leather even more personal. Occasional treatment with a conditioner specific to exotic leathers helps maintain suppleness without altering the matte effect.
Yes. The combination of 115mm on the case side and 75mm on the buckle side covers most wrists between 16 and 20cm in circumference, which represents the most common range. If you have a particularly slim or robust wrist, contact us before purchase—we work custom-made.
Matte red works very well on black, white, or silver dials, where contrast is sharp without appearing aggressive. The most successful uses we see are on dress watches with thin steel or white gold cases, but also on elegant sports chronographs with black ceramic bezels. The 20mm lug width is compatible with many classic references from Swiss and Italian manufacturers.
