The broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) lives in freshwater swamps, mangroves, and slow-moving waters of eastern South America — Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia. It is not the Mississippi alligator, nor the Nile crocodile. It is a species unto itself, with a more irregular, more lively grain, more character.
On this strap, that grain is orange. Not a screaming orange: opaque, almost sandy, with the natural nuances that each skin carries. No glare, no lacquer. Just the leather, its texture, its personality.
The stitching is manual, stitch by stitch, with matching thread that follows the profile without overpowering it. The thickness tapers from 4mm at the lugs to 2.5mm towards the buckle — a progression that isn't seen, but is immediately felt on the wrist: flat, stable, without stiffness.
Each piece is unique. Caiman leather does not accept serial production: the scale pattern changes from specimen to specimen, from area to area. What you receive is not identical to the one in the photo — it is the same strap, but with its own skin history.

Scales that tell time.
Broad, regular scales that take on a warm lustre along their edges with wear. A serious leather, it matures slowly and grows more beautiful the more you live with it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between caiman leather and alligatore leather in terms of grain and appearance?
Caiman has a more pronounced and irregular grain compared to American alligatore, with ossified scales — called osteoderm — that give the surface a more pronounced and less uniform relief. On opaque orange this translates into a play of shadows and nuances that smooth alligatore does not offer. It is not an ’inferior’ leather: it is simply different, with a rawer and more immediate character.
Does the matte finish of caiman tend to polish over time with use?
Yes, over time and with daily contact the areas of greatest friction — especially on the inner part of the lugs — develop a slightly more luminous patina. It is a natural process, not a defect. On a leather of this quality, wear tells the story of use and becomes part of the strap’s identity.
Is the 21mm × 16mm size compatible with standard watches or is it designed for specific models?
The 21mm lug width is less common than the classic 20mm or 22mm, but is found on some Rolex Daytona models of certain generations and on specific vintage references. If your watch requires exactly 21mm, this is the right size — and difficult to find elsewhere. We recommend verifying the width of the space between the lugs before choosing.
How to manage maintenance of an orange caiman strap to preserve its color over time?
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight: vibrant shades like orange on exotic leather are more sensitive to UV fading compared to neutral colors. Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth, without chemical products. A cream specific to exotic leathers, applied sparingly two or three times a year, keeps the scales flexible and the color stable.
