The Seiko Prospex Land SNE423P1 features a 24mm lug width, an uncommon measurement in watchmaking. The width is measured between the inner shoulders of the lug attachment points: positioning a digital calliper between these two points yields exactly 24mm of free space through which the strap slides. It is essential not to confuse this measurement with the case diameter (45.60mm) or other case dimensions; 24mm is the sole measurement applicable for compatible aftermarket straps.

The choice depends on intended usage. For daily and semi-adventure wear, a vegetable-tanned leather strap (calf, nubuck, alligator) in brown, cognac, or black tones enhances the austere steel case aesthetic. If outdoor use is frequent with regular water and humidity exposure, a NATO strap in Cordura textile or an FKM rubber strap offers superior durability and maintenance convenience. The 24mm lug width is compatible with all these solutions in artisanal configurations.

Strap replacement requires a simple tool: a spring bar removal tool. Gently push the tool under the metal pin that connects the strap to the case, or use the tool's two ends to free the strap's inner shoulders from their seat on the case. Once the pin is released on one side, the strap slides away. To install the new 24mm strap, align the ends with the case holes and push the metal pin into place with the tool until you hear a confirmatory click. Do not force to avoid damaging the case lugs.

Any strap manufactured for 24mm lug width is compatible with the SNE423P1. This includes full-grain leather, nubuck, calf, alligator straps, NATO textile straps, and rubber straps with or without deployante clasps. Mechanical compatibility is universal; selection is based on aesthetic and functional preferences. Artisanal straps offer customisations impossible on mass-produced solutions: choice of tanning, grain, thickness, length, and buckle configuration.

A quality leather strap with vegetable tanning and crafted from full-grain hide resists 3 to 8 years of daily wear, depending on ambient humidity, solar exposure, and frequency of use. Leather develops increasingly beautiful patina over time, but the adjustment holes progressively wear, and the strap edges gradually thin. If the watch is exposed to prolonged moisture (snorkelling, frequent showers, tropical climates), lifespan reduces to 1-3 years. Minimal maintenance—biennial application of protective wax and rapid drying after water contact—significantly extends the strap's useful life.
