Strap replacement requires extraction of the spring bars using a dedicated tool (spring bar tool). The old strap is removed by carefully levering the ends of the spring bars to free them from their sockets in the case. The new 20mm strap is then positioned by aligning its slots with the bars, and these are reinserted into the sockets until they click into place. The operation is reversible and does not damage the case if performed correctly.

Any strap with a 20 millimetre lug width is mechanically compatible, however not all aftermarket options maintain the aesthetic and constructive quality appropriate to the model. Artisanal straps in alligator, high-end calf leather and vegetable-tanned leather represent the direct upgrade, whilst NATO straps guarantee maximum resistance. Durability depends on intensity of use and material composition. An artisanal-quality alligator strap with vegetable tanning and moderate daily wear typically lasts 4-6 years before requiring reconditioning or replacement. Vegetable-tanned calf with natural ageing may last 3-5 years, though its patina improves over time with regular maintenance (gentle cleaning, conditioning). Woven NATO straps last 2-3 years before deterioration. Moisture, chlorine and aggressive detergents shorten the useful life of any leather strap.
