The lug width is 22mm. This measurement is taken internally between the metal pins on either side of the case lugs. Always verify with a digital caliper before purchasing an aftermarket strap, as a 20mm or 24mm lug width will not be compatible.

Use a spring bar tool (two-pronged: one fork-shaped end, one spatula-shaped). Position the fork under the lateral metal pin of the lug, press inward and the pin will retract. Remove the old strap and insert the new one by aligning the holes at the strap ends with the lug pins. The pin will snap into place automatically when it reaches the end stop. Work on a soft surface to avoid scratches.

A leather strap, if regularly worn on a 45mm case, will last between 3 and 5 years before requiring replacement. Durability depends on body weight, frequency of use and tanning method: vegetable-tanned leather ages more nobly but requires more maintenance (conditioning every 6 months). NATO textile straps last 6-8 years. Vulcanised rubber reaches 7-10 years if not directly exposed to prolonged UV rays.
