It is essential to measure your original watch's lugs with a digital calliper before purchasing an aftermarket strap, as variations of even ±0.5mm can affect fit.

We recommend four primary options: vegetable-tanned alligator (classic elegance with natural patina), shell cordovan (superior durability and progressive lustre), NATO fabric strap (historical aviation practicality), and FKM rubber (total water resistance). Selection depends on intended use: formal-elegant for alligator and cordovan, sporty-versatile for NATO, technical-extreme for rubber.

The procedure requires specific tools: stainless steel spring bar tool (not wooden), an anti-static workbench, and a magnifying lens. Position the watch with the lugs horizontal and insert the spring bar tool from inside the case, applying gradual and consistent pressure. Never force: the pin must exit smoothly. Reverse the procedure for the new strap. If uncertain, we recommend replacement at our Casati Milano Atelier by appointment.

However, we recommend choosing high-quality materials (full-grain leather, certified woven polyamide NATO, FKM rubber) to avoid compromising the watch's construction quality. Avoid excessively elastic straps or cheap deployante buckles.

A quality artisanal alligator or calf strap lasts 3-5 years with daily wear, extendable to 7-8 years with periodic maintenance (seasonal hydration with pH-neutral balms). Shell cordovan guarantees 8-10 years due to superior crystalline structure. Woven polyamide NATO straps resist 4-6 years. FKM rubber maintains functionality beyond 10 years.
