The BC4's lug width is 22mm. This measurement refers to the internal distance between the two lugs (spring bar attachments) on the case. You can verify this by inserting a digital caliper between the lugs: the reading should be exactly 22.00mm.

The ideal strap depends on intended use: for formal elegance, choose cognac alligator or vegetable-tanned calf leather; for summer performance, opt for recycled nylon NATO in grey or military green; for marine environments or intense perspiration, technical rubber offers complete moisture resistance. Use a spring bar tool with a forked end. Insert the pointed end under the case lug, apply steady outward pressure to retract the internal spring, and the lug pin will release from the old strap. Repeat for the second lug. Install the new strap by inserting both pins into the eyelet holes and pressing downward until you hear a click.

Any strap with 22mm lug width is compatible. Seek manufacturers who certify this measurement. Verify pin diameter (standard 1.5mm) and ensure the new strap can support the weight of the 42.70mm stainless steel case by choosing structurally robust materials rather than lightweight options.

A quality leather strap (alligator, calf, shell cordovan) lasts 2–4 years under daily wear, varying by environmental conditions and maintenance. Humidity accelerates degradation; dry storage slows it. Vegetable-tanned leather develops beautiful patina over time and can last longer, whilst alligator maintains structural integrity for 3–5 years.
