Rolex Day-Date spring bars — sets for every era
€14,95
Set of two spring bars for Rolex Day-Date, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. The Day-Date is the President: 36mm case, 40mm, now also 36 and 40 in every precious alloy. 20mm lugs on the 36, 21mm on the 40. 1.5mm or 1.8mm pin depending on the reference.
On the vintage 1803 the pin is 1.8mm and the lug is drilled. On the 18238 and 118238 the 1.8mm remains but the lugs are blind. On the modern 228238 in 40mm you move to 1.5mm and 21mm lug width. The steel stays: even on a gold case, the pin is steel by Rolex specification — gold deforms under load.
The same spring bars I fit on clients’ Presidents. Please indicate the reference in the order notes.

Domande Frequenti
I have a Day-Date 1803 from the 1960s and the lugs are drilled. Will these spring bars fit?
Yes, perfect. The 1803 has drilled lugs and 1.8mm pins: the set includes exactly that. Swiss Standard tempered steel holds up well under load, which is essential on a vintage watch where the gold lugs are already fragile. Specify reference 1803 at checkout.
Can I use the same spring bars on my 18238 (yellow gold) and my modern 228238 (steel)?
No, you need to be careful. The 18238 requires 1.8mm with solid lugs, the modern 228238 switches to 1.5mm with 21mm lugs. These are physical differences: the thinner pin on the new model won’t fit into the old lugs. Order the specific set for each watch, don’t take the risk.
Why do you use steel for the pins even on gold cases instead of gold?
Because gold deforms under load — it’s too soft. Rolex has always used steel for pins even on gold Presidents; it’s a specific design feature. Tempered steel holds the strap pressure without yielding, gold would fail within weeks.
What’s the difference between 1.5mm and 1.8mm pins? Is one more resistant?
It’s not a matter of resistance, it’s constructive compatibility: the lugs are designed differently. The 1.8mm is the historic standard (up to the 18238), the 1.5mm is the new standard from the 228238 onwards. Both are Swiss Standard tempered, both last. You just need to choose the right one for your reference.
