Set of two spring bars for Rolex Day-Date reference 18038 in 18-karat yellow gold, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Size: 20mm between the lugs. Pin diameter: 1.8mm. For the entire 18038 production, from 1979 to 1989 — the first Day-Date with a quickset case and 3055 movement.
The 18038 has drilled-through lugs, even in the earliest production. 1.8mm pin — not the modern 1.5mm and not the vintage 2.0mm. It is a compromise chosen by Rolex for the gold cases of the late Seventies: 18k gold is soft, a hole that is too wide deforms under load. The 1.8mm holds better in the seat without becoming oval.
