Vintage Rolex Bubbleback spring bars — narrow lugs
€14,95
Set of two spring bars for Rolex Bubbleback, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Typical size: 16mm or 17mm between the lugs, depending on the reference. Pin diameter: 1.5mm. The Bubbleback is one of the first Rolex automatic watches, produced from 1933 to the early Fifties — references 3131, 3132, 5050, 6105 and similar.
The lugs of the Bubbleback are very narrow by modern standards. Few aftermarket straps are made in these sizes, and almost none come with the right spring bars. The 1.5mm does its job: it holds without forcing, and on a case that is nearly a hundred years old, that matters even more.
When a client brings me a Bubbleback for a bespoke strap, these are the spring bars I use.

Domande Frequenti
How do I know if these spring bars fit my Bubbleback?
Measure the distance between the two lugs on your case: if it is 16mm or 17mm, you are good. The pin diameter is 1.5mm — verify by gently inserting it into the lug hole; it must enter without forcing. If your case is a 3131, 3132, 5050, or 6105, these bars are designed for you.
Why 1.5mm and not 1.6mm like modern watches?
The Bubbleback dates from 1933–1950, when Rolex used different tolerances. A 1.6mm pin on a vintage lug risks enlarging the hole or forcing the strap. The 1.5mm maintains the original clearance — important for a case that is nearly a hundred years old and deserves respect.
If I remove the old spring bar incorrectly, will I damage the lug?
It depends on how you do it. Use a spring bar tool, not a knife blade. Insert the tool into the slot and lift one pin simultaneously — not one at a time. If the case is very fragile, consult a watchmaker. It is not worth the risk.
Are these bars really Swiss Standard steel? What does that mean?
Yes, tempered steel that maintains elasticity over time — the historical Rolex standard. They are not poorly plated nor do they rattle. Swiss Standard means precise tolerances and controlled hardening, which at this reduced diameter is critical for reliability.
