Set of two Rolex 20mm × 1.8mm spring bars, blind ends, in hardened Swiss Standard steel. Intermediate diameter between the modern 1.5mm and the vintage 2.0mm. Designed for Submariner 14060, GMT 16700 and 16710 of the transitional era, where Rolex fitted pins wider than the modern standard.
1.8mm is the transitional diameter of the Nineties. More material than the 1.5mm, less than the vintage 2.0mm. It holds better on the lugs of these references, which have a recess slightly wider than the 1.5mm standard. On the 14060 in particular, the 1.5mm wobbles — serious collectors notice it immediately.

I have a 14060 and a 16710: will the 1.8mm work for both or do I need to use different diameters?
The 1.8mm works for both, but you’ll feel the difference on the 14060. With the standard 1.5mm it will rattle in the lugs — the 1.8mm provides correct fitment. On the 16710 the improvement is less noticeable, but you still get a more solid hold compared to 1.5mm.
Are these ‘fat bars’ in 1.8mm compatible with non-Rolex bracelets or only with Rolex transition models?
Technically the diameter is what matters — it will fit any Rolex that has the bore for 1.8mm pins. But this size is specifically the Rolex transition from the Nineties. If your lugs are calibrated for modern 1.5mm or pure vintage 2.0mm, the 1.8mm may not seat properly. Measure first.
How do I know if my 14060 really needs the 1.8mm or if the standard 1.5mm is enough?
Install the 1.5mm and check if the bracelet moves laterally on the lug when you pull it. If it rattles, the bore is wider — the 1.8mm will seat. If it stays firm, 1.5mm is sufficient. On transition-period 14060s, the rattle is almost always present.
Does the 1.8mm diameter still fall within Rolex standard or is it out of tolerance?
It is not an official Rolex standard — it is the intermediate size Rolex used during the transition between modern 1.5mm and vintage 2.0mm, without formal documentation. It falls within the construction tolerances of lugs from that period, but if you have doubts about your reference, verify the bore before installation.
