The alligator short strap is born from a precise choice: separating the clasp from the leather.

Alligator is the most demanding leather I work with. It ages extraordinarily well, but it does not tolerate the mechanical friction of a buckle tongue. This is why I make it in short strap configuration — the long piece on the back of the wrist, the short piece on the deployant clasp. The alligator never touches the buckle. It lasts twice as long.

This piece is calibrated for the Daytona. The standard configuration is 75×65 mm, tapered from 20 to 16 mm. I also have the 65×55 mm variant available for those with a narrower wrist or who prefer an asymmetric set-up. The 16 mm deployant is not included.

The padding starts at 4.40 mm at the lug attachment and descends geometrically to 2.50 mm towards the clasp. It is not decoration — it serves to connect with the lines of the case and to maintain the slim profile where it enters the deployant. The inner lining is in soft, hypoallergenic calfskin. The stitching is tonal with the leather: it is not seen, it does not break the continuity of the grain.

The leather is genuine first-grade alligator. Each scale has a distinct geometric pattern — no piece is identical to another. Over time it develops a chromatic depth that no bovine leather can approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why a two-piece configuration instead of a full alligator strap?

Alligator leather cannot withstand the mechanical friction of the pin buckle. The clasp wears it down rapidly, degrading the hide faster than any other leather. With a two-piece setup—long piece on the dorsal side, short piece on the deployant—alligator never makes direct contact with the closure. It lasts twice as long as a single-piece strap.

How do you handle variations between pieces? Is every alligator identical?

No, and that’s precisely why it’s genuine alligator. Each scale has a distinct geometric pattern; no two pieces are alike. That’s what happens when you work with first-grade material: natural variability. Over time, this difference becomes an asset—they develop chromatic depth that no bovine leather comes close to. If you’re after perfect uniformity, this isn’t your material.

What dimensions does the Daytona configuration have? What if my wrist is smaller?

The standard setup is 75×65 mm, tapered from 20 to 16 mm—calibrated for the Daytona. If your wrist is smaller or you prefer an asymmetric fit, I also have a 65×55 mm variant available. Contact me with your watch model and wrist size, and we’ll find the right configuration.

Is the padding purely aesthetic or does it serve a real purpose?

It serves a purpose. It starts at 4.40 mm at the lug attachment and tapers geometrically to 2.50 mm toward the closure. It complements the Daytona case lines and maintains a slim profile where it enters the deployant. It’s not decoration—it’s the engineering that makes the strap conform without stiffness.

Should I have a deployant made separately, or is it included?

The deployant is not included. The short piece tapers to 16 mm at its terminus—the end that attaches to the clasp—but the deployant must be ordered separately or sourced from your watch’s original hardware if compatible. It depends on how you want to assemble everything.
