This vintage calfskin strap is born from the selection of first-choice Italian leathers, handcrafted with respect for a tradition that allows no shortcuts. The tone is a deep chocolate brown, with that natural variability of leather that makes each piece, in fact, unique. The ecru stitching creates a measured contrast — enough to define, not enough to distract.
The vintage cut is not an superimposed aesthetic: it is the direct result of artisanal craftsmanship and the quality of the raw leather. Is this brown really so stable, or will it change completely from one month to the next?
The colour evolves, it does not disappear. This is vintage calfskin: meaning it began from an already aged hide, so the core of the chocolate brown tone is already stable. What happens over time is more a patina than a radical change. The natural variability you notice at first glance from one piece to another is the characteristic of the leather, not an instability. If you are looking for a brown that remains exactly the same over time, a vintage is not your choice — but then you do not understand what you are buying.
Is this 3mm thickness thin or heavy for a strap? Will it hold up well on the wrist?
3mm is the thickness of a leather that knows how to sit on the wrist without pulling on the hand. It is not paper, it is not cardboard: it is leather with body that defines the contact with the wrist. It holds up well because it is structured calfskin worked by hand, not a sheet of nothing. If you compare it to bloated synthetic straps, yes, it is more restrained — but that is precisely the point. You will barely feel the weight, but you will feel the quality of the grip.
The lugs are 22mm — but my watches range between 22 and 24. What do I do?
Technically, it is available in both 22×20mm and 24×20mm. When you order, you specify which lug width you require based on your watch. It is not something that can be changed afterwards: it is a measurement to verify beforehand on your timepiece. If your watches have different measurements, you would need different straps — this is not a dual-fit strap.
The ecru thread stitching — does it stay this light even after the leather darkens, or does it disappear?
The stitching is conceived as a measured contrast, not as an element that fades away. With time and natural use the leather develops its patina, but the ecru thread does not magically turn brown. What happens is that the visual proportion balances out: the leather grows richer, while the thread retains its character. It is not designed to be invisible, it is calibrated not to shout even as the leather ages.
How much of the colour variability you describe is ‘natural’ and how much is ‘the risk of receiving two completely different pieces’?
The variability lies in the signature of the leather — each piece comes from the selection of first-choice Italian leather, so it is not a lottery. Within that spectrum of vintage chocolate brown, the pieces remain recognisable as siblings. You will not receive one brown and one bordeaux. If that natural variability disturbs you to the point of wanting them pixel-identical, a vintage is not your project: in that case, choose something else.
