The first thing we look at is the watch. Not the case diameter, not the lug width — the watch itself. How the light falls across the dial. The weight of it on your wrist. The arc of the case from twelve to six. A bespoke strap begins here, in this silent conversation between the timepiece and the hand that will shape its companion.
At our atelier in Via XX Settembre, Milano, a strap built to measure follows a path that cannot be shortened. It starts with an appointment — an unhurried hour where we study your watch, understand how you wear it, and begin to narrow the field of possibilities. This is not a fitting. It is a first encounter.
Then comes the leather. We keep our selection in the atelier precisely so you can choose the skin from the material itself — not from a swatch card, not from a photograph. You hold it. You bend it. You see how the grain shifts under different light. Calf, whether full-grain or hand-painted. Heritage vegetable-tanned hides from Tuscan tanneries. Each skin carries its own character before a single cut is made.
What follows are over fifty passages of handwork. Skiving the edges to the exact taper. Stitching by hand with linen thread drawn through beeswax. Setting the holes at the precise intervals your wrist requires — not standard spacing, but yours. Finishing the edges so they close smooth and firm, with no visible adhesive, no raw fibre. Every passage exists because removing it would compromise the one that comes after.
The process takes four weeks. We do not offer faster alternatives because faster alternatives produce a different object. What arrives at the end of those weeks is a strap shaped entirely around your watch and your wrist — a single piece, unrepeatable in the strict sense, because the next hide will never fall in exactly the same way.
Good leather does not stay the same. It darkens where your pulse runs warm. It softens where the buckle folds. Over eighteen months of daily wear, the strap you receive becomes something else entirely — something that records the specific pressure of your hand, the climate of your city, the rhythm of your days. This is what properly selected and properly worked leather does. It remembers.
