The procedure involves removing the spring bars that connect the lugs to the case using a dedicated spring bar tool. It is a reversible operation and does not require watchmaker intervention provided the artisanal leather features pre-fitted lugs. We recommend using a soft pad and direct lighting to avoid scratching the case finishes.

It must feature an exact lug width of 22 mm and thickness adequate to support the case weight (minimum 1.8 mm for vegetable-tanned calf, 2.0 mm for alligator). If equipped with a deployante clasp, it must offer smooth opening and reliable retention. We recommend water-resistant materials to fully exploit the case's submersible resistance.

A vegetable-tanned calf strap offers 2–3 years of moderate daily wear before significant lug deterioration and clasp failure. Alligator resists 3–4 years owing to structural grain characteristics. Saline environments and constant humidity reduce durability by 20–30 per cent. FKM rubber exceeds 5 years without functional degradation, remaining the absolute longevity option.
